The last thing Liverpool fans needed was Manchester United legend Gary Neville rubbing salt into their wounds following their Merseyside derby defeat against Everton on Saturday evening.

An early goal from Richarlison and a controversial late penalty by Gylfi Sigurdsson sealed Liverpool’s fate as Jurgen Klopp’s men slipped to their fourth loss in a row.

The Red Devils fanatic enjoyed the match – a lot – and mocked the Reds at half-time by telling Jamie Carragher to get his kit on after skipper Jordan Henderson was forced off to add to Klopp’s growing list of injury woes.

Neville was at it again after Carlo Ancelotti’s men were awarded a penalty for a foul of Dominic Calvert-Lewin by Trent Alexander-Arnold, as referee Chris Kavanagh went to his pitchside VAR monitor to check his original decision.

Neville then posted a video of himself laughing and wrote: “They’ve only sent him over to make em think it was being overturned,” and added the fishing and crying laughing emojis for good measure.”

And then in a video shared on Twitter, he revelled in a celebratory post with a glass of wine at full-time and said: “It’s been very difficult in lockdown, I mean meltdown, I mean lockdown! To see the demise of the great champions.”

Neville took to social media on Sunday morning to issue a sarcastic apology for his antics the previous evening – suggesting he was feeling a bit worse for wear!

“Good morning and apologies for my behaviour yesterday evening,” Neville said on his train to London ahead of covering Arsenal vs Manchester City.
